No Such Thing As Ghost – Meant To Me

by | Apr 7, 2018 | Song of the Day

“Meant To Me” by No Such Thing As Ghost is the best kind of power pop: a tender love song kicked in the ass by full-throttle guitars and a wall-of-sound chorus. Punky energy and a strong vocal combine to give “Meant To Me” the feel of an 80’s-vintage band on steroids.

No Such Thing As Ghost has the classic guitar/guitar/bass/drums lineup that always makes the best rock music, and they stir up a lot of noise on “Meant To Me.” But the heart of the song is a great melody, and the lead vocal that sails above the power chords. Layer in multiple harmony tracks, and “Meant To Me” becomes the type of song that you’d love to yell along to as you drive down an open road blasting it from your car’s speakers.

No Such Thing As Ghost is based in Sherwood Park, Alberta, described by Wikipedia as “a large hamlet” near Edmonton. And for those of you keeping score at home, that’s what us Texans would call “way up there.” The band is Alex Hominiuk (guitar and vocals), Mike Wilson (bass and vocals), Kyle Blacher (guitar), and Taylor Gowdy (drums). They describe themselves as “alternative rockers” and “your mom’s favorite band, but like… your mom’s really cool.”

“Meant To Me” is from No Such Thing As Ghost’s new three-song EP, Dizzy. All three tracks display good songwriting and excellent musicianship. The EP was recorded and produced by Randor Lin at Velveteen Audio. And it has some really cute kitties on the cover!

If Dizzy is any indicator, then No Such Thing As Ghost should be a great live band. And if you’re in Edmonton this is your lucky day, because No Such Thing As Ghost is appearing Saturday night, April 7, at the Sewing Machine Factory. Turn out and help the guys celebrate the release of their new EP!
